Who this is for

The week of looking after a cat, on one page. The ordinary jobs run down the side and the days run across, so a tick says the tray was done and a gap says nobody did it. Underneath, a short table records each tray, where it is and what goes in it.

Households where more than one person feeds the cat and nobody is sure who did, people with several trays to keep on top of, and anyone leaving the routine with a sitter for a few days.

What this helps you track

  • Which jobs belong to the week, written where everyone can see them
  • A box per day, so a missed tray or an empty water bowl is visible
  • Who did what, when the work is shared
  • Where each tray is, what litter it takes and what liner or mat goes with it
  • Anything your vet asked you to keep an eye on, on your own lines

How to use it

  1. Write the cat's name, the week beginning and who is looking after them at the top.
  2. Read down the printed jobs and cross out anything that does not apply in your house; add your own on the empty rows.
  3. Tick a box when a job is done that day, and put initials in the who column when several people share it.
  4. Fill in the tray table once: where each tray sits, the litter you buy and anything particular about it.
  5. Feed and medicate as your own vet advised — write what they told you in the notes rather than working to any figure printed here.
  6. Pin the sheet where the food and the trays are, and start a fresh one each week.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The online version keeps what you enter in your own browser and builds the completed PDF on your device.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

How often does a litter tray need doing?

The sheet does not say, because it depends on the cat, the tray, the litter and how many animals share it. The rows are there to record what you do; the frequency is yours and your vet's.

There is no feeding amount on it. Why not?

Because we do not know your cat and have no business printing a quantity. Write what your vet advised in the notes, and use the row to record that the feed happened.

Can I use it for more than one cat?

For two cats sharing a routine, one sheet works. Where each animal has its own feed and its own medicines, the multi-pet feeding rota keeps them apart line by line.

What do I do with the empty rows?

Write in the jobs your house does that ours does not — the fountain filter, the scratching post, a coat brush, an eye or ear check your vet asked for.

Can I tick it on screen?

Yes. The browser version keeps the ticks in your own browser and prints or downloads the filled sheet as a PDF.

Track weight against what the animal is actually being fed, so a change in one can be read against the other. A single weighing tells you very little; a column of them taken the same way each time is something a vet can use.
