What this sheet is for
Put the price in writing before the work starts, which is what prevents most garage disputes.
Who it is for
Independent garages, mobile mechanics, body shops and anyone quoting for vehicle work.
How to use it
- Record the fault as the customer described it, and what you diagnosed.
- List parts with part numbers — it stops arguments about what was fitted.
- Show the labour hours and your rate separately.
- Say plainly what the estimate does not include.
- Both sign before work begins.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
What is the difference between an estimate and a quotation?
In many places an estimate is an informed guess and a quotation is a fixed price, and the legal weight of each differs by country. This form is headed as an estimate; if you intend to be bound to the figure, say so on it and take local advice.
Why is there no labour rate printed?
Because it is yours. Rates differ by region, by trade and by shop, and printing one would be inventing a figure.
