A free printable variety trial sheet — one crop, several varieties side by side, with the number sown, how many came up, yield, taste and keeping notes and a grow-again column.
One page. Choose your paper size — both versions are laid out identically, so neither one gets shrunk to fit.
Print it and write on it
Fill it in type and save
The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.
Turn a vague sense that one variety did better into something you can read back in January when the seed order is due.
Growers trying more than one variety of the same crop — allotment holders, seed savers, market gardeners and anyone curious enough to compare properly.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: One crop, several varieties, side by side — sown the same way and judged on what you actually counted, weighed and ate, so next year's order is a decision rather than a guess.
Same treatment, different varieties. A trial only tells you something if the varieties get the same treatment. Note at the top what you held the same — bed, sowing date, watering — and keep the germination and yield columns to figures you counted or weighed yourself.
Write-on lines: Crop · Season or year · Bed / plot · Held the same
Table, 8 rows: Variety · Supplier · Sown · Sown (no.) · Came up · First picked · Yield · Taste · Keeps · Again
Ruled lines: Notes — how the trial was run, anything that spoiled the comparison
Because the packet figure was measured under laboratory conditions on a different batch, and it is not what your bed did. Counting what actually came up is the whole point of a trial.
As many as you can give the same treatment. Two well-matched rows tell you more than six varieties scattered about the plot in different soil and shade.

Turn a season of odd handfuls and full trugs into one running total per crop, so next year's planting is decided by what the plot produced rather than by memory.
Keep track of what is under cover at any moment and how it has been treated, so a crop that sulks can be read against the conditions it actually had.
See what every bed has carried without trying to remember it, so next season is planned against the real history of the plot.
