Who this is for

Everywhere you have been, written down. Each row records a country and the place within it, when you first and last went, how many times, who you were with, what stood out and whether you would go back.

Travellers keeping a lifetime record, families logging the places the children have seen, and anyone who has started to lose track of which trip was which year.

What this helps you track

  • Every country and place, with first and most recent visit
  • How many times you have been back
  • Who you travelled with each time
  • The highlights you would otherwise forget
  • A count of countries and places so far

How to use it

  1. Write the traveller's name and the date you started the record.
  2. Add a row for each place: the country, the city, region or landmark, and your first visit date, working back through old photos and passports if it helps.
  3. Update the last visit and times visited when you return somewhere.
  4. Note who you went with, the highlights and tick if you would return.
  5. Keep the count boxes at the top current, and use the second page when the first fills; the browser version saves in your own browser.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The online version keeps what you enter in your own browser and builds the completed PDF on your device.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

What counts as a country?

That is up to you. Some people count only sovereign states, others count territories or the nations within a union separately. Pick a rule, write it in the notes and stick to it so your count means the same thing each year.

Does changing planes count as a visit?

Many people count only places where they left the airport, but there is no single rule. Record the stop and decide whether it goes in your count; the register itself just keeps the record.

How do I record a country with several places?

One row per place, each with the country written in. The country count box is for distinct countries, so count each country once however many places it has.

Can a family keep one register?

Yes. Put everyone's name as the traveller and use the travelled with column to show who was on each trip, or keep one register each if you want separate counts.
