The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

A week of teaching, with the hours added up. List every lecture, seminar, lab and tutorial with its time, room and lecturer, and the sheet totals the contact hours for the week and for each module alongside the study time you plan.

University students building their own timetable from the official one, especially those balancing classes with a part-time job, placement or commute.

What this helps you track

  • Every timetabled session, with its day, time, room and lecturer
  • The type of each session: lecture, seminar, lab, tutorial or workshop
  • The length of each session and the contact hours for the week
  • Hours per module, with the independent study you plan beside them
  • Where the free time falls for study, work and travel

How to use it

  1. Fill in your name, term, the week commencing date and your campus.
  2. Enter each session with its day, start and end time in hours (13.5 for half past one), module, type, room and lecturer.
  3. Read the duration of each session; the browser and Excel versions work it out and total the week.
  4. In the module table, add up the contact hours for each module and enter the independent study you plan for it.
  5. Enter your planned free study hours at the top, then print the sheet or keep the browser version, which saves in your own browser.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

Why enter times as numbers?

So the sheet can subtract start from end. Write 9 for nine o'clock and 14.5 for half past two; the duration column then shows the session length in hours.

What counts as contact hours?

Whatever your course counts: usually timetabled teaching such as lectures, seminars, labs and tutorials. Add or leave out online sessions to match how your department describes them.

Does the week change every week?

Often it does, with fortnightly labs or reading weeks. Keep one sheet per teaching week, or a standard week plus notes for the weeks that differ.

Can I total hours per module automatically?

The session table totals the week. In the module table, add up each module's sessions and enter the figure; the total column then adds your planned study.
