Spreadsheet formulas included

The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.

Fill it in online

The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

What went into storage, and what it is costing. Each lot is logged in and out, the charges are recorded as they are billed, and the summary works out the cost so far at your provider's rate and the days left to your planned clear-out.

Households whose belongings sit in a self-storage unit or a removals firm's store between leaving one home and moving into the next.

What this helps you track

  • Which lots or box groups are in storage and which have come out
  • How many days each lot has been stored
  • Every charge billed and when it was paid
  • The cost so far at the rate you are charged
  • How many days are left before the planned clear-out

How to use it

  1. Fill in the provider, unit number, start date and planned clear-out date, then your rate and the number of days in each billing period from your agreement.
  2. Log each lot or box group as it goes in, with the date you plan to take it out.
  3. When a lot comes out, write the date and untick still in store.
  4. Record each invoice or charge in the charges table as it is billed and paid.
  5. Days stored, the charges total and the summary are worked out in the browser and the workbook; on paper, count the days and add down.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

How is the cost to date worked out?

Days since the start date, divided by the days in your billing period, times your rate per period. It is an estimate at your rate; the charges table records what was actually billed, which may differ if your provider charges whole periods.

What counts as a lot?

Whatever you track as a unit: a numbered range of boxes, a room's furniture, a crate or a pallet. Using the same labels as your box log makes items easy to find when they come out.

Does the sheet include storage prices?

No. Every rate and charge is taken from your own agreement and invoices. The sheet supplies no prices or typical costs.

Why a planned clear-out date?

Storage that runs on past the move is easy to forget and keeps being charged. The summary counts down to the date you set, so the final retrieval gets booked.
