Who this is for

Every card, one list. Keep the names and postal addresses of everyone you send a Christmas card to, tick who you sent to and who sent one back, and note which cards go by post and which you deliver by hand.

Households that still send Christmas cards by post, and whoever inherits the job of writing them from a parent or partner who kept the list in their head.

What this helps you track

  • Everyone who gets a card, with their full postal address and postcode
  • Who was sent a card this year and who sent one to you
  • Which cards are posted and which are delivered by hand
  • How many cards and stamps you bought and how many are left
  • Changes of address and names to add or drop next year

How to use it

  1. Write the household, the year and your own last posting date at the top — check it with your postal service, as it changes each year.
  2. Fill in the cards and stamps table when you buy them, so you know before you start writing whether you have enough.
  3. List each recipient with their address and postcode, and choose posted or by hand.
  4. Tick sent as each card goes in the post or through a door, and tick received as cards arrive.
  5. Note changes of address, new babies and names to drop, then use the list as the starting point next year. The browser version saves in your own browser.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The online version keeps what you enter in your own browser and builds the completed PDF on your device.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

When is the last posting date?

It is set by your postal service and changes from year to year and by class of post and destination, so the sheet leaves a field for you to write in the date you find. Check it before you start writing.

Why tick received as well as sent?

It shows at a glance who you have lost touch with and who has sent you a card you have not returned. Many people use it to decide who stays on the list next year.

Can I keep one list for several years?

Print a fresh sheet each year and copy across the names you keep, or use the browser version, which saves in your own browser, and clear the ticks each December.

What about addresses abroad?

Write the country on the address line and note it in the notes column, as overseas cards usually need posting earlier. The second page gives room for a longer list.
