Why use this rather than the printable?

After a fire or a burglary almost nobody can list what they owned. Writing it by hand is the reason people never finish; typing it, room by room, with the list saved as you go, is the reason they do.

Both exist on purpose. If you would rather not type anything, the blank printable versions below are free, need no browser and never change. The tool is for when the personalised version is worth three minutes.

Questions

Where is my inventory stored?

In your own browser, on your own device, using local storage. It is never uploaded and we never see it. That also means it is not backed up by us: export the PDF and keep a copy somewhere other than the house.

Will my insurer accept it?

Ask them. Insurers set their own requirements and some want photographs or a professional valuation in a particular form. What this does is make sure the information exists at all, which is the part people leave until it is too late.

What if I clear my browser data?

The inventory goes with it. That is the trade-off for not having an account. Export a PDF whenever you have added a batch of items.
