Why use this rather than the printable?
People compare cars on fuel economy and price, then discover the real difference was insurance, tyres and depreciation. This adds up every line, including the ones that only appear once a year.
Both exist on purpose. If you would rather not type anything, the blank printable versions below are free, need no browser and never change. The tool is for when the personalised version is worth three minutes.
Questions
Are there default figures?
No, deliberately. Every field starts empty because average costs are wrong for almost everybody, and a plausible-looking default is the fastest way to get a confident wrong answer. Your own bills are the correct source.
Does it include depreciation?
It has a line for it and asks you to estimate it, because it is usually the largest cost of running a newer car and the one people leave out. What a specific vehicle will lose is a market question, not a calculation, so the figure is yours.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is arithmetic on numbers you supply.
